The New Audi A6 2012 model has just been made available for sale from mid 2011, and what seems like a mild face lift hides a raft of modifications under the skin, which improve the car in every aspect. The suspension allows the A6 to glide over bumps it would previously have crashed over, while feeling much more agile in the bends. Refinement is great on motorways, and it is incredibly hushed even at higher speeds. Build quality is as usual excellent, with the interior being a great place to spend time, the materials are true luxury level, and everything is well laid out and intuitive to use, feeling a huge jump above the old A6 model it replaces. Space in the rear of the car is almost at limousine levels with great levels of head and leg room.

Audi A6 2.0 TDI

The 2012 Audi A6 2.0 litre diesel is the mainstay of the range and easily the biggest seller. It comes with 177 bhp, which does a good job of hauling around a car the size of this, and gives a solid push of mid range acceleration, with a 0-60 of 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 141 miles per hour, whilst returning a very respectable 57.6 mpg fuel economy and CO2 figures at just 129 g/km of CO2. It is currently only available as a manual with front wheel drive but an automatic version should be available in the future, and possibly a quattro model too.

Audi A6 3.0 TDI

The 2012 Audi A6 3.0 TDI diesel gives real performance in the new A6 with 2 different engine power levels depending on whether you go for the front wheel drive model, that has 204 horsepower and returns 54.3mpg and CO2 levels of 139g/km, or the quattro 4 wheel drive system that has an increased 245 horsepower with a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds, a top speed of 155 miles per hour and great fuel economy figures for such a large engine, with a combined average of 47.1mpg and CO2 figures of 158g/km. The more powerful engine and quattro drive will cost you an extra £4750 over the front wheel drive version.

Audi A6 3.0 TFSI

The Audi A6 3.0 TFSI Petrol would be the top performance version in most ranges, with the 3.0 TFSI turbo petrol engine tuned to give 300 bhp, it lives to rev and sounds great. It’s only available with Quattro 4 wheel drive and with an automatic gearbox, and has a 0-60 of 5.5 seconds and is again limited to 155 mph for your own health and safety. Fuel economy isn’t the strongest point at 34.4 mpg, and unless you really don’t like diesel, then the 3.0 TDI is the better option for the UK market, and will have stronger resale values.
