New Audi A8
The New Audi A8 is the range topping flagship, and the largest of Audi’s luxury cars. Built with an advanced all aluminium construction, it is incredibly light compared to its rivals from BMW and Mercedes, meaning much better fuel consumption, along with improved acceleration, braking and cornering. 2 other advantages of the aluminium are no rust, and a much better resistance to small dents that you inevitably pick up in car parks etc. The A8 handles beautifully for such a large car, taking corners with aplomb. Internally the finish is wonderful, with Audi renowned for its beautiful interiors. Head and legroom are both first rate, and there’s an option of a long wheelbase version should you require an extra six inches or so of legroom in the back – ideal for chauffeuring. The market for large luxury cars like the A8 has dropped in the UK with people diversifying into 4×4’s and sports cars, but for those who truly understand the benefits of these cars, there is nothing better to be wafted around in. |

Audi A8 2.8 FSI
The 2.8 FSI is the smallest petrol engine and the entry to the range, but a well proven unit. It has been in the Audi range for a while, it is relaxed, not keen on too many revs and best wafting the car along on the mid range power rather than being rung out – see the new 3.0 TFSI for that.. It has 220 bhp, a 0-60 time of 8 seconds, and a top speed of 147 mph, meaning it’s no slouch. Fuel economy is at 34 mpg, not too bad for such a large car, and the 2.8 FSI is only available with a Multitronic CVT automatic box, and is front wheel drive rather than the Quattro 4 wheel drive system. |

Audi A8 3.0 TDI Diesel
The 3.0 TDI diesel gives real performance in the new A8 with 233 bhp, and a good shove in the back from the mid range torque. propelling it from 0-60 in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 151 mph, all while giving 36 mpg fuel economy. All the A8 3.0 TDI models come with Quattro as standard, and the Tiptronic style torque converter traditional auto box. |

Audi A8 3.2 FSI
The 3.2 FSI petrol comes in either front wheel drive with the Multitronic gearbox or Quattro 4 wheel drive with the Tiptronic traditional style aut0. It has 260 bhp giving a 0-60 time 0f 7.7 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph. Fuel efficiency is around 28.5 mpg mark. The 3.2 is a popular engine choice for those avoiding the diesels and makes for pretty rapid progress. |

Audi A8 4.2 FSI
The 4.2 FSI petrol comes in quattro 4 wheel drive only to channel the big dollops of power effectively. Power levels are around the 350 bhp mark giving outstanding acceleration of 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155 mph. Fuel economy will suffer if you really push it, but you expect that from a 4.2 V8! |

Audi A8 4.2 TDI Diesel
The 4.2 diesel is a popular choice in Germany for the A8, but the majority of the diesel sales in the UK are the 3.0 due to increased economy, which is a pity as the 4.2 TDI has huge reserves of mid range thrust, meaning in real world driving conditions overtaking happens in the blink of an eye without much in the way of change down from the smooth auto gearbox. 0-60 times are at the 5.9 second mark – quicker than the 4.2 petrol ,and top speed is again limited to 155. Official fuel economy figures are still at the 30 mpg mark, due largely to the aluminium body keeping weight down. |

As you would expect being a top of the range luxury car, the Audi A8 comes with a very good level of standard spec. With no ‘basic’ spec, the SE is the entry into the range, and gets: 172 alloy wheels, 6 CD changer, DAB digital radio, Satellite navigation, DSP 9 speaker 320 watt sound system, Audi’s MMI interface to control everything on screen, keyless entry & keyless start, Isofix child seat mounts, aluminium trim, auto dim rear view mirror, 4 zone climate control, cruise control, carpet mats, walnut wood inlays, multifunction steering wheel, front and rear parking aid, air suspension, LED brake lights, electronic park brake, metallic paint, and xenon lights. |
Audi A8 Sport
The A8 Sport trim is the next step up from SE getting everything the SE does, with firmer sports air suspension, larger 19” alloys, sports style leather seats, grey wood veneer rather than walnut, and LED daytime running lights. | |
Audi S8
The Audi S8 is the hottest A8, with a 5.2 litre V10 450 bhp engine, capable of 0-60 in 5 seconds, giving fantastic performance. It also gets an uprated spec with 20” alloys, valcona leather sports seats and plenty of S logos so there’s no mistaking what you’re sitting in. the speakers are upgraded to the Bose surround sound as standard, and the wood is replaced in the cockpit with carbon fibre and aluminium. Fuel economy isn’t the strongest point, but you’ll be too busy having fun to care. |
