New Audi Q7

The New Audi Q7 is a great looking brute of a car. There are fewer cars on the road with the sheer physical presence of the Q7. with most rivals going for a slabby, boxy look, the Q7 keeps the modern Audi curves of the rest of the range, but blends it with aggression and style. The interior is also a fantastic place to be, with sleek modern soft touch materials mixed with dashes of aluminium and chrome. The Q7 is a true 7 seater and capable of transporting the whole family with ease, it is relaxing to drive and handles surprisingly well for such a large car, but stays on the side of comfort rather than sacrificing it for outright sporting ability.

Audi Q7 3.0 TDI Diesel

The Audi Q7 3.0 TDI diesel is the engine of choice for this car in the UK. With 240 bhp there is plenty of mid range shove to move the Q7 along, and a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds along with a 134 mph top speed show just how quick it is. when it comes to diesels, it is more about the torque produced, and 550Nm means that you can punt along in any gear easily without having to really work the engine. The 3.0 TDI is the most economical engine in the Q7 range too, with fuel consumption figures at 28.8 mpg for the combined cycle not bad for such a large 7 seater.

Audi Q7 3.6 FSI

The Audi Q7 3.6 FSI petrol engine is a characterful V6 motor that enjoys being revved, it has 280 bhp and thankfully 360 Nm of torque, meaning it is capable of moving the Q7 along at a fair old pace, with a top speed of 143 mph and an identical 0-60 time to the 3.0 diesel of 8.5 seconds. It does miss out when you look at in gear acceleration times compared to the diesel though, and also on fuel economy, giving an average of 22.2 mpg, meaning it won’t be a big seller in the UK.

Audi Q7 4.2 FSI

The Audi Q7 4.2 FSI petrol engine is identical to the one found in the S5. It gives 350 bhp and a 0-60 of 7.4 seconds, and it’s torque figure of 440 Nm means it can waft along effortlessly, but you’ll be using plenty of petrol while you’re doing that, with its average official fuel economy figure of 21.2 mpg actually turning into 16 – 18 mpg in real life. The 4.2 Petrol V8 is a big seller for the American market, but unless you own a filling station and are happier with much bigger depreciation than a diesel, it will be a rare sight on UK roads.

Audi Q7 4.2 TDI

The Audi Q7 4.2 TDI diesel is a rarely seen V8 diesel model built for those who feel the 3.0 V6 diesel is not enough – Audi have the solution. With a 0-60 of 6.4 seconds and 326 bhp, along with 760 Nm of torque, this is a fast car, although such a large engine does start to negate the advantages of diesel, with the fuel economy figure of 25.5 mpg. Definitely worth a look, but personal choice as to whether the extra power is worth the extra expense over the smaller diesel, as it won’t fetch much more come resale time.

Audi Q7 6.0 V12 TDI diesel

Let’s be clear, the Q7 6.0 V12 TDI diesel is Audi showing off its technical prowess, and just generally showing off! No other manufacturer has anything close in its line up, with a full 500 bhp, a staggering 1000 Nm of torque, a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph. This engine is a development of the ones used in the Le Mans race cars, and is pure comedy to use. The surge forward is monumental, but let’s not forget this is not a sports car, and 2.6 tonnes of Q7 needs some pretty serious brakes when it gets to a corner this quickly – suspension and brakes have both been beefed up considerably to cope. This car in no way stacks up as a practical proposition, but if you have a stable full of sports cars already, then the V12 diesel could make an interesting alternative.

Audi Q7 Specification

The Audi Q7 is a large premium 4×4 and comes with a decent level of standard spec: Automatic transmission, 18” alloy wheels, adaptive air suspension, CD player with 8 speakers, 7 seats, Isofix child seat mounts, reverse park aid, multifunction leather steering wheel, front armrest, gloss black trim, fog lights, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, 2 zone climate control, cruise control, cupholders, trip computer, and carpet mats.

Audi Q7 SE

The Audi Q7 SE takes all the equipment you get on the standard model, and adds a different set of 18” alloys, ‘cricket’ leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seats, heated seats, a choice of wood or aluminium trims, LED interior lighting, aluminium door surrounds and aluminium roof bars.

Audi Q7 S Line

The Audi Q7 S Line is the sportiest trim level and on top of the SE spec it also gets: much larger 20” alloys, leather / alcantara sports seats, sports steering wheel, brushed aluminium trim, the S Line styling pack with deeper front and rear bumpers and side sills.
