Ford Ka 2012

The new 1.2 litre petrol engine is the mainstay of the range and the one with the lowest prices. It has 69 horsepower, good for a top speed of 99 mph and gives a combined fuel economy figure of 55.4 miles per gallon (mpg), whilst just staying in the £35 a year road tax bracket with CO2 at 119 g/km.

The 1.3 TDCi is the only diesel engine in the range, and only comes in top spec Zetec trim. It is the most expensive model, but also the most fuel efficient, with an average fuel consumption figure of 67.3 mpg. It develops 75 horsepower, and has a top speed of 100 miles per hour, and CO2 stays at the 112 g/km mark, meaning cheap road tax.
