The CR-V was first launched in 1996 and is now in its 3rd generation, having been a sales success worldwide. Engines

There are just the 2 different engines available in the CR-V, one petrol and one diesel, and taken straight from the Accord. The petrol is the cheaper of the two which is the 2.0 litre i-VTEC, available as a manual or automatic, which puts out 150 horsepower, and gives a 0-60 time of 10.2 seconds and a top speed of 118 miles per hour. fuel economy and residual values are both much poorer on the petrol rather than the 2.2 diesel, with the petrol returning 34.9 miles per gallon. p>

Easily the best seller is the 2.2 i-DTEC diesel engine, which suits the nature of the car better, and in this generation can be bought as a manual or auto, and despite being slightly more expensive than the petrol you will get the difference back and more come resale time, whilst fuel economy is a much improved 44 mpg – so unless you are diesel phobic or have a limited budget it’s the one to go for.

Specification

There are 3 different specification levels available in the range, starting with the Honda CR-V SE, which gives you 17” alloy wheels, CD player with Aux-In socket, anti lock brakes, stability control, a full compliment of airbags, and isofix child seat mounts.

The mid range spec is the ES, which gets everything the SE gets and adds 18” alloys rather than the std 17’s, a USB port for your music, dual zone climate control air conditioning, half leather seats, heated seats, leather steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, thatcham category one alarm, cruise control and front fog lights.

if you choose the SE or the ES models you can upgrade them by adding satellite navigation with traffic management, and bluetooth hands free system by selecting the -T model, i.e. you can have the SE-T or ES-T.

Top of the range in terms of spec is the EX, which comes full loaded with voice recognition, DVD satellite navigation, bluetooth hands free system, rear parking camera, a premium sound system, privacy glass, panoramic glass sunroof, and full leather seats.
