New Jaguar XF

The New Jaguar XF was launched to much critical acclaim in March 2008, and has continued to go on and win a huge amount of awards from the national and international motoring press, topping it all off with the prestigious ‘What Car?’ Car of the Year Award – and it deserves every accolade it gets! Jaguar has pushed the styling on the XF on to a new level, no retro Jaguar detailing, just a beautiful shape that is clearly a Jaguar and exactly how a modern luxury car should look. But looks aren’t everything, and the XF has the traditional Jaguar ride that can waft you over the bumps that rivals crash over, whilst still having fantastically crisp accurate handling in the corners. Internally things just get better, with an interior described by some members of the press as the best seen on any production car to date, with swathes of leather and aluminium that is a great compromise between trendy wine bar and gentlemans club, with surprise and delight features such as the air vents that rotate open when you get in, the starter button that pulses red like a heart beat, and the drive selector that rises up from the transmission tunnel like something in a Sci-Fi movie. Several engines were available at launch – the great 2.7 twin turbo diesel that is one of the most refined diesels ever made, and the 4.2 supercharged V8 from the XKR giving 414 bhp in the SV8 model. Jaguar has now replaced the 2.7 diesel with a more powerful 3.0 diesel version – with either 240 or 270 horsepower in the XF 3.0 Diesel S, and the 4.2 has been replaced with a 5.0 V8 with either 380 or 504 bhp in supercharged form. As standard the XF comes with a list of standard kit so comprehensive that you’ll be scratching your head as to why you ever looked at that BMW or Mercedes.

Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel

The Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel replaces the 2.7 diesel in the XF line up as of late March 2009. Despite the excellent performance and relative newness of the 2.7, Jaguar has decided to increase the size of the engine for a bit more go. With the capacity boost comes some added performance – power goes from 207 to 240 horsepower and torque goes up to 500 Nm, giving an extra useful shove in the back and lowering the 0-60 to 6.7 seconds. Don’t worry about economy though, as Jaguar has pulled off a neat trick with the XF 3.0 Diesel – despite the larger engine fuel economy increases to an average of 42 mpg and CO2 emissions fall to just 179 g/km. So that’s more power, more torque, more speed, yet better economy and emissions – great!

Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel S

The Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel S is a high performance version of the Jaguar XF 3.0 diesel, which boosts power over the already powerful unit from 240 to 270 bhp, lowering the 0 to 60 time to an exceptionally rapid 5.9 seconds, and taking torque to a massive 600 Nm meaning beautifully effortless overtaking of pretty much anything this side of a super car. Thankfully the fuel economy and emissions of the standard XF 3 litre diesel aren’t affected one bit, so you still get 42 mpg combined and 179 g/km of CO2 – all for a small premium over the standard 3 litre.

Jaguar XF 5.0 V8

The Jaguar XF 5.0 V8 replaced the older 4.2 V8 engine in March 2009 with a ground up redesign, featuring direct injection for the first time. Power goes up from the 4.2 litre’s 300 horsepower to a great 385 horsepower knocking the 0-60 time right down to 5.5 seconds and boosting torque to 515 Nm. fuel economy is slightly better than the 4.2 at a reasonable (for a 5 litre engine)25.4 mpg and emissions are still fairly high at 264 g/km – but then you don’t buy a 5 litre engine for its economy! This new 5 litre engine matches most of the old supercharged 4.2 SV8 performance figures, and takes its place in the range, leaving clear air above it for the all new XFR…

Jaguar XFR

The new Jaguar XFR Is the all new Flagship performance XF, taking the SV8’s place at the top of the XF range. The Jaguar XFR has the new 5.0 litre V8 engine, supercharged to give a massive 504 horsepower, a 0 to 60 time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 but that would be past 190 mph if de-restricted. The Jaguar XFR is suitably epic not just in its straight line speed or acceleration, but also in the corners, as it has a very sophisticated chassis with an electronically controlled limited slip differential, and active suspension supplied by racing experts Bilstein. Recent magazine reviews have seen the XFR beat the BMW M5 and Audi RS6 at their own game, and its great to see Jaguar back at the top of the super saloon tree.

Jaguar XF Luxury Specification

The Jaguar XF Luxury Spec is another huge selling point, as this ‘entry’ spec gives you a level of standard equipment most German executive saloons could only dream of! It has Automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shift, 17” alloys, reverse parking aid, electrically adjustable leather seats, split fold rear seats, walnut veneer, multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, speed limiter, keyless start, dual zone climate control, 7” touch screen satellite navigation, 6 CD changer mounted in dash, bluetooth connectivity and a trip computer all thrown in.

Jaguar XF Premium Luxury Specification

The Jaguar XF Premium Luxury Spec takes everything you get on the Luxury, and for £3600 adds: power fold mirrors, heated front windscreen, larger 18” alloy wheels, space saver spare wheel, 10 way electric memory leather with lumbar support, upgraded soft grain leather, keyless entry, auto dimming mirrors, carpet mats and an uprated premium sound system. The Premium Luxury also gives you the options of Ivory leather, Bi-Xenon headlights and the Rich Oak wood veneer (all at extra cost) – none of which are available to order on the standard model

Jaguar XF Portfolio Specification

The Jaguar XF Portfolio spec is the new top of the range specification and comes with some nice exclusive options over and above the XF Premium Luxury: Bi Xenon Headlights with Headlamp washers, standard no cost metallic paint, 16/12 way soft grain leather electric seats, contrast seat stitching, DAB radio, the fantastic Bowers and Wilkins sound system with portable audio interface to plug in your Ipod, premium carpet mats, suede cloth headlining, larger 20” Selena alloys, and optional no cost Ivory leather trim.
