The New Mercedes C Class is the latest generation of this best selling compact executive saloon and estate, which goes head-to-head with the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 for sales. This most recent version has brought back some of the much needed feeling of solidity and reliability found in the brands models of yesteryear, with excellent fit and finish and high quality soft touch materials. The range has a big selection of different engines to go for, with the C220 CDI being the pick of the bunch for us, and the biggest seller. Mercedes C180K
The Mercedes C180K is smallest of the 4 petrol engines on sale and the entry model into the range. Despite the misleading badge it is actually 1.6 litre 16 valve supercharged motor with 156 horsepower, that gives the C180 a decent turn of speed. Fuel economy figures are around the 44.8 mpg on the EU combined cycle and has CO2 emissions at the 154g/km level. These impressive economy and emissions figure earn the car the BlueEfficiency title, meaning the car had good Eco credentials for a petrol powered car. Mercedes C200 CDI
The C200 CDI is the lowest powered of 4 diesel options available to you, with 3 being based on the same engine. The C200 CDI diesel is actually a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine with 136 horsepower. This is enough to propel the car from 0-60 in 10.4 seconds and on to 133 miles per hour flat out. These are more than respectable performance figures for a car of this size, for more power, just take a look at the C220 and C250 variants. This C200 CDI uses diesel at a rate of 47.9 mpg on average, and gives off CO2 at 156g/km, and is available in both manual or automatic gearboxes. Mercedes C220 CDI
The C220 CDI is the mid powered diesel variant in the range, based on the same 2.2 litre engine as the C200, but with the turbo’s turned up a notch to give . 170 bhp rather than the 136 of the low powered version. This helps the 0-60 time down to 8.4 seconds and the top speed up to 144 miles an hour. The C220 is a BlueEfficiency engine, so has been tweaked for optimum emissions and fuel economy, so it beats the C200 in this respect, with excellent average fuel consumption of 58.9 mpg – great for this size car, and really low CO2 figures of 127 g/km. Mercedes C250 CDI
The Mercedes C250 CDI diesel is based on the same 2.2 litre engine as the C200 and C220, but with twin turbos, giving a whopping 204 bhp 0-60 in just 7 seconds and on to a top speed of 150 mph. Neither of these hurt the fuel economy much, with consumption at 55.4 mpg on average, and CO2 figures around the 134 g/km mark, winning the C250 CDI the BlueEfficiency badge once again. Prices are around £1000 more than the equivalent C220 variant, but thankfully our Orangewheels discounts can help lessen that – for a cheap Mercedes C Class just have a look at our savings on this model above. |

Mercedes C250 CGI
The Mercedes C250 CGI petrol can cause some confusion – that one letter change from CDI to CGI catches a lot of people out! Again Mercedes random model configurations suggest this might be a 2.5 litre engine when in fact it is a highly tuned 1.8 litre petrol engine with 204 bhp and a top speed of 149 miles per hour. It is only available as an automatic and is not as big a seller as the diesel versions. it has a commendable 39.2 mpg fuel economy figure and CO2 figures around the 168 g/km mark. It is around £1500 cheaper than an equivalent performance C250 Diesel, but the diesels better economy figs give it the advantage. |

Mercedes C350 CDI
The Mercedes C350 CDI Diesel is the largest of the diesel engines available, and only available with an automatic gearbox. It is a 3 litre engine with 224 bhp, a 0 to 60 time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. These figures look very similar to the C250, and indeed they are, but the fuel consumption figures do take a knock, down to 38.7 mpg and CO2’s up to 193, making the C250 CDI look the much better bet should you need the extra power. |

Mercedes C350 CGI
The Mercedes C350 CGI is the second largest petrol engined version available, and is one of the few models in the range where the name actually matches the engine capacity – it is a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine, only available with an automatic gearbox. It has 272 horsepower, enough for a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph. With this larger capacity motor, the fuel consumption drops right down as you would expect to 29.1 mpg, and CO2 rises to 232 g/km, meaning it’s not really a car for the company car drive who would be taxed to the hilt. The C350 CGI does not sell in great numbers in the UK and is a car primarily designed for the US market. |

Mercedes C63 AMG
The Mercedes C63 AMG is the massively powerful performance version of the C-Class, available in both saloon and estate, and with a whopping 6.2 litre V8 engine, with 457 horsepower, and a top speed limited to 155 mph, that would be nudging the door of 190 mph if it was not restricted. We’re not even going to bother you with things like emissions levels or fuel consumption, as the average buyer of these wont car. what they will be more concerned with is the C63 AMG’s wonderful ability to behave like a cross between a supercar and an old fashioned American muscle car with tail out power-slides, and the fact that it’s more powerful than a BMW M3 or Audi RS4. |
