Mercedes ML300 CDI

The 2012 Mercedes ML 300 is the smallest of the 3 diesel engines available in the range. It uses a 3.0 V6 turbo diesel that produces 190 horsepower, good for 0-60 in 9.8 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph. The new 2012 Mercedes ML350 CDI is based on the same engine as the ML 300, but with the turbos turned up a notch to give 224 bhp, which lowers the 0 to 60 time to 8.6 seconds and raises the top speed to 134 mph. surprisingly fuel economy remains unchanged at an average of 31.7 mpg and CO2 is also the same at 236 g/km meaning more performance at no environmental cost, also winning it a BlueEfficiency badge. Mercedes ML450 CDI

The ML450 CDI is the largest and most powerful of the 3 diesel variants, and uses a huge 4.0 litre V8 turbo diesel giving 306 horsepower, a 0 to 60 time of just 6.5 seconds and a to speed of 146 mph. Fuel economy does drop when compared to the smaller diesels with a combined figure of 26.6 mpg and CO2 goes up to 279 g/km, but the main benefit of this big diesel is the huge amount of mid range torque it has, a whopping 514 lb/ft, making overtaking a doddle without having trouble the automatic gearbox to change down. The 2012 Mercedes ML500 is a rare sight in the UK, as it comes with a massive 5.5 litre V8 engine, giving 388 horsepower and a rapid 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds, taking the car on top a limited top speed of 155 mph. Fuel economy is poor at 21.6 mpg, but you don’t buy a big 4×4 with a 5.5 litre V8 and expect good returns on fuel consumption, so this wont be a worry for the few owners who plump for the ML 500. The 2012 Mercedes ML 63 AMG is the ultra high performance version of the car, with a 5.5 litre V8 tuned to give a massive 510 bhp, moving the cars performance into 4×4 super car territory. 0-60 times drop to 5 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 155 mph for safety. The AMG model receives an aggressive body kit, a set of larger alloys, uprated brakes and sports suspension to help it stop and corner more quickly and to be able to handle all that extra power.
