Mercedes R300 CDI

The Mercedes R300 CDI is the less powerful of the two diesel engines available, and uses the same block as the R350, but tuned to produce 190 horsepower. This is good enough to take the R300 from 0-60 in 9.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 130 miles per hour. Fuel economy returns about 31.7 miles per gallon with CO2 levels at 235 g/km. Mercedes R350 CDI

The R350 CDI is based in exactly the same engine as the R300, a 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel, but in this higher state of tune produces 224 horsepower giving a 0-60 time of 8.7seconds and a higher top speed of 137 mph. The R350 CDI is the most popular choice in the range and is available with either 5 or 7 seats. Fuel economy does not suffer much with the transition to a higher power, with it being around the 30.4 mpg mark. CO2 similarly only increases very slightly to 246 g/km. Mercedes R350L CDI

The R350L CDI has just the one letter different from the standard R350, that L, which denominates the longer wheelbase version. Other specs and performance are pretty much identical to the standard car, but with a lot more rear legroom for that true limousine feel. The Mercedes R500 is available in Long wheelbase only, and come with the marques huge 5.5 litre V8 engine producing 388 horsepower, more than enough to give the car a great 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph, making it the fastest car in the range. The R500 is likely to be rare in the UK with most buyers opting for one of the diesel models. As usual with the range it can be specced in SE or Sport trim and comes as an auto only.
