Renault Kango 2012

The new 1.5 DCi diesel is the only diesel available in the range, but with a choice of either 86 or 106 horsepower it is frugal and well up to the job of moving the car at a good lick, with plenty of mid-range torque and a surprisingly refined nature. the 86 horsepower version has a top speed of 98 mph, gives 53.3 miles per gallon on the official combined cycle, and has CO2 emissions at 140g/km. The 106 version is slightly more expensive, but has a lot more go and is our favourite in the range. fuel economy drops only slightly to 51.4 mpg and CO2 rises to 146 g/km, but in real world use the extra go makes it worth the extra money.

The 1.6 Petrol engine comes in either an 8 valve form with 90 horsepower or a 16V format with 105 horsepower. The 16V in particular is fun to rev, although fuel consumption drops compared to the diesel to around the 36 mpg level, which makes the diesel the more popular seller and the model that commands higher used prices.
