Specification

The new 1.5 DCi diesel is the smaller of 2 diesels available in the range and thanks to its frugal nature the car has fantastic fuel economy, giving 57.6 mpg on average with just 130 g/km CO2. This is enough to earn the Eco2 badge the the brand gives to its most fuel efficient cars. Power is at the 110 horsepower level which is not fast, but good enough fro everyday use, with a 0-60 time of 12.1 seconds and a top speed of 119 mph. the Laguna 1.5 DCi diesel is the cheapest model in the range, and is available as a saloon or estate in either the dynamique, Expression or TomTom trim levels.

The new 2.0 DCi diesel is the mainstay of the range as you would expect, with most fleet buyers option for the 2.0 diesel. As such it is offered in 3 different power levels, a 130, 150 and 180 horsepower version. Lets start with the 130 horsepower model – it has a 0-60 time of 10.6 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph, meaning enough go for everyday conditions, and fuel economy around the 47.1 mpg, with the all important CO2 levels at 157 g/km. f you jump up a price bracket and look at the 150 version, it comes either as a manual or with an automatic gearbox as a cost option. It’s 0-60 time drops to 9.5 seconds and top speed jumps to 130 mph, with fuel consumption and CO2 staying exactly the same as the 130 version. In use there is a bit more mid-range pull on the 150, useful in particular on motorways. The 180 horsepower car is the most powerful of the three, and is usefully faster than the other two, particularly noticeable in the mid-range torque when overtaking. fuel economy drops slightly by about 1.5 mpg on the 180 horsepower version to 45.6, and CO2 rises a little to 163 g/km, but the difference is minor, with the real separating factor is the price – if you can afford the more powerful models then it is worth it.

The new 2.0 petrol engine is like several other models available in 2 power levels, the standard 140 horsepower in the saloon or estate models, or the turbocharged 2.0T version in the coupe. The standard model isn’t a big seller as performance levels are similar to the diesel, but fuel economy is a fair way behind at 36.7 compared to the diesels 47.1, and CO2 is higher at 182 g/km. the diesels are a bit more expensive, but do hold their money better come resale time compared to the 2.0 petrol.
