The engine produces 158 horsepower, good enough for a 0-60 time of 10.2 seconds in the manual car (11 seconds for the 4×4 Auto), and a top speed of 115 mph. Fuel economy for this petrol version isn’t bad considering the size of the car, giving an average of 38.2 on the official combined run, and CO2 is at the 174 g/km level. The Toyota RAV4 2.2 Diesel is the more popular choice of engine now that most consider that diesel is the way to go for 4 wheel drive cars. It is available with either a manual (D4-D)or automatic (D-CAT) gearbox and produces 150 bhp, enough for a claimed 0-60 time of 10.2 seconds in the manual car, and a top speed of 118 mph, matching or beating the petrol engine on both counts, while giving much better fuel economy at 48.7 mpg, and lower CO2 of 154 g/km.
