The New VW Sharan is Volkswagen’s largest people carrier and is a full 7 seat mpv. Originally developed back with the ford galaxy several years ago, the Sharan kept on going when the majority of manufacturers moved away from the larger MPV’s and it still has a dedicated following, which is testament to its durable, long lasting design. The Sharan is only available with diesel engines, and comes in either a 1.9 or 2.0, with automatic only available on the 1.9 |

VW Sharan 1.9 TDI Diesel
The VW Sharan 1.9 TDI diesel has been in production for as long as the sharan has, and is a well proven, reliable motor. giving 115 bhp in this form, it propels the car from 0-60 in an average 13.2 seconds, and on to 112 mph. fuel economy is its best feature, returning a figure of 43.5 mpg on the combined run. The engine can be a little rattly on start up, and is a bit gruff compared to newer diesel designs, but as the entry level model, it does the job well. |

VW Sharan 2.0 TDI Diesel
The VW Sharan 2.0 TDI diesel unit is a much newer design than the 1.9, and features common rail fuel injection, which gives more power, better economy and a much smoother and more refined motor. In this form it gives 140 bhp which is more than enough for the Sharan, and the mid range torque allows easy overtaking without the need to rev the engine. Fuel economy figures are around the 42.8 mpg mark on the combined run, not far off the 1.9, and there’s a top speed of 119 mph, pretty good for such a large car. |

The VW Sharan S is the basic spec for the car, and gives everything you would expect: 16” steel wheels, remote central locking with alarm & immobiliser, front and rear climate control, electric windows, full size spare, multifunction trip computer, CD player with 10 speakers, and several powerpoints for front and rear passengers. |

VW Sharan SE
The VW Sharan SE is the mid range spec, and on top of the S, gives you these extras: 16” alloy wheels, dark tinted glass, front and rear parking sensors, and integrated child seats. |

VW Sharan Sport
The VW Sharan Sport is the top spec Touran, and over the SE it gives you a different set of 16” alloys, sports suspension, leather steering wheel, 6 Disc CD changer, carpet mats, front fog lights, sports seats, upgraded CD player, luggage cover for the boot. |

VW Sharan Bluemotion
The VW Sharan Bluemotion is Volkswagen’s fuel efficient version of the Sharan. based on the standard 2.0 TDI diesel engine, but with several tweaks to eek out the best fuel economy with the lowest emissions. The Bluemotion is given low rolling resistance wheels and tyres, (meaning a set of small alloys), changes to the ECU to make the engine more efficient and cleaner, it is lowered slightly and has a set of higher gear ratios for the top 3 gear, so when you’re cruising at motorway speeds, the engine isn’t turning over as fast, so less fuel used. CO2 is down and fuel economy rises by about 5mpg. The Bluemotion models are available in the S trim for a slight premium over the standard S. |
