New VW Tiguan

The New VW Tiguan 2012 model is Volkswagen’s new small off roader. With a typical blend of conservative yet classy styling, a well appointed interior with plenty of high grade materials and soft touch surfaces, and the traditional build quality you associate with Volkswagen. Designed for better on road performance than off, the Tiguan gives a lofty driving position but body roll is reduced and corners are taken in a style more akin to a family hatchback. It’s a late entry into the junior 4×4 market, but as with all VW products for sale, it gets things right first time, and it immediately goes to the top of the class to battle it out with the Honda CRV and Freelander.

VW Tiguan 1.4 TSI

The 2012 VW Tiguan 1.4 TSI petrol is the smallest engine in the range, but by no means the least powerful with 150 bhp available, a very healthy output from a 1.4 and is due to the turbo and supercharger arrangement. Whilst a 1.4 litre doesn’t sound much this is more than enough to propel it from 0-60 in 9.6 seconds and on to 119 mph, giving an average of 33.6 mpg. The 1.4 is also available as a front wheel drive only spec to save the pennies.

VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI Diesel

The 2012 VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI diesel unit is a new engine that has recently been introduced across the VW range in several power guises. It features common rail fuel injection which gives more power, better economy and a much smoother and more refined motor. There is a choice of either 140 bhp which is more than enough for this size car, or the more powerful 170 bhp version which has even more pull. On both cars the mid range torque allows effortless overtaking without the need to rev the engine. Fuel economy figures are around the 40 mpg mark on the combined run, and an automatic version is available in the 140 bhp car.

VW Tiguan 2.0 TSi

The 2012 VW Tiguan 2.0 TSi is a development of the powerful turbocharged petrol engine from the Golf GTI, and is available in 2 power versions, dependant on the trim level and price. The SE version gets 170 bhp, whereas the Sport gets a full 200 bhp, which turns the car into a very quick 4×4, slashing the 0-60 times, whilst still returning 31 mpg, although you’ll need steady driving to get to this figure. The 2.0 is available in manual and automatic forms in both power levels.

VW Tiguan S

The 2012 VW Tiguan S is the basic spec for the car, and gives everything you would expect: 16” alloy wheels, body colour bumpers, black roof rails, air conditioning, remote central locking with alarm/immobiliser, cup holders, midline multifunction computer, CD player with 8 speakers and an Aux in socket for your MP3 player, split folding seats, and all the electronic stability aids.

VW Tiguan SE

The 2012 VW Tiguan SE is the mid range spec, and gives you this additional spec above the S: Larger 17” alloy wheels, chrome roof rails and window surrounds, leather steering wheel, under seat drawers, flat tyre indicator, folding tables on the back of the seats, front armrest, an upgraded 6 CD changer and 8 speakers.

VW Tiguan Sport

The 2012 VW Tiguan Sport is the top spec, and on top of the SE spec you also get even larger 18” alloy wheels, carpet mats, automatic headlights, front fog lights, sports seats, rain sensing wiper and firmer sports suspension.

VW Tiguan Escape

The VW Tiguan Escape is Volkswagen’s more focused off road version of the car. It won’t beat a Land Rover up a hill ,but has been modified to cope with the rough stuff a little better with a modified front bumper and sump guard that will allow a larger ‘ramp angle’ (if you don’t know what that is, you probably don’t need the escape version) it also comes with (over the S) 17” alloys, protective side bump strips, underbody protection, carpet mats, leather steering wheel, compass, under seat drawers, front armrest, front fog lights, off road settings with hill descent assist, and an upgraded stereo with 6 CD changer.
