New Volvo V50 Deals and Discount Prices
New Volvo V50
The New Volvo V50 is a well built, classy and surprisingly agile car, a very proficient all round package, with more than enough style to stand out from the usual fleet offerings in this class. Traditional Volvoists may find the ride a little firm and the boot a little small compared to say a V70, but the entertaining handling and individual character more than make up for it and should also guarantee stronger residual values come sale time. Overall, a great all round package that has made its own market niche. Anyone coming from a previous generation Volvo V50 will barely recognise this new car, so vast a leap forward is the improvement in the handling. Not traditionally a Volvo strong point, the car is nimble and direct and now positively enjoys being thrown at the corners. Steering is well judged and responsive, but a traditional owner might find the suspension a little on the firm side. This Volvo seems designed with the driver in mind, as front headroom and legroom are both accommodating, the front seats comfortable and supportive with a good driver position and well laid out controls. Rear passengers suffer for this slightly, with less space than some of the larger offerings in the class. Boot space is acceptable, but not cavernous considering it's estate car purpose – see the larger V70 estate offerings in the range if you need a car that can swallow a wardrobe with ease. |

Volvo V50 1.6 Petrol
The Volvo V50 1.6 Petrol is the entry level engine in the range, and gives a 0-60 time of 11.9 seconds from its 100 bhp engine, with a top speed of 115 mph and a combined fuel economy figure of 40.4 mpg. It is pretty frugal for a petrol car, but needs a fair amount of revving to really get going, and fuel economy will suffer when you do. The 1.6 is great for a runabout and if you're on a budget and need it for round town rather than for extended motorway miles then this is for you. |
||
Volvo V50 2.0 Petrol
The V50 2.0 Petrol engine is another taken from the Ford parent company, and gives a 0-60 of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph from it 145 horsepower. Fuel economy is 38.2 mph, almost identical to the smaller 1.8 engine, most buyers will still look towards the diesel versions though. |
||
Volvo V50 1.6 Diesel
The Volvo V50 1.6 Diesel is available in 2 versions, either the 1.6D R Design with its sporty body kit, or the S40 1.6D DRIVe model, which is Volvo's 'green' economy model which has been tweaked with lower emissions, higher gear ratios and engine mapping to maximise fuel efficiency. The result of all these changes gives an average fuel consumption figure of 62.8 mpg (57.6 mpg on the 1.6 R Design) and CO2 levels at 118 g/km - below the all important 120 mark, meaning road tax is £35 a year. 0-60 times aren't a strong point at around the 12 second mark, but that would be missing the point of the DRIVe models. |
||
Volvo V50 2.0 Diesel
The V50 2.0 Diesel is easily the best seller of the range, combining good real world performance and excellent fuel consumption. Power is around the 136 bhp mark, but it is the mid range torque you feel from this refined diesel motor, giving a 0-60 time of 9.4 seconds, but the in gear acceleration times wipe the floor with the 2.0 petrol model, meaning it's the diesel who would disappear into the distance when they accelerate on the motorway, whereas the petrol driver would have to change down 2 gears and rev it to keep up. Top speed is a credible 127 mph, while fuel economy is just under the 50 mpg mark. The 2.0 diesel is available either in a manual transmission or the new Powershift twin clutch auto gearbox. |
||
Volvo V50 D5 Diesel
The V50 D5 is the popular 5 cylinder diesel motor seen in the rest of the range, that in a mid size car like the S40 gives a very good level of performance. It has 185 bhp and a 0-60 time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph average consumption of 46 mpg, and is a great all round performance package while still returning great fuel economy. This engine has been in production for 5 years and isn't the most refined or quiet, but has a pleasing growl to it due to the 5 cylinder configuration rather than the usual rattle from a typical 4 cylinder diesel. The D5 model is available with either a manual or a conventional Geartronic auto box.. |
||
Volvo V50 T5
The S40 T5 is the top of the range performance model and features the same 2.5 litre turbocharged engine as in the Focus ST, with a 5 cylinder unit pumping out 230 bhp through the front wheels, giving a 0-60 time of just 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. The T5 isn't as performance based as the Focus ST, so there is a degree more give in the suspension settings, meaning a more comfortable car. fuel economy still achieves a reasonable 32.5 mpg, and the S40 T5 is available with either a manual or a Geartronic auto box. |

Volvo V50 S SpecThe V50 has 5 levels of standard spec: S SE, SE Lux, R Design Sport and R Design SE Sport. The S Spec is the entry level and gives you all the usual Volvo safety features such as airbags, SIPS, whiplash protection, ABS, DSTC, Isofix child seat mounts, Alarm Immobiliser, etc, 16" alloy wheels, climate control, exterior temp gauge, Front and rear armrest, lumbar support, split fold rear seats, leather steering wheel, a CD player with 4 speakers and Aux-In socket for your MP3 player. |
||
Volvo V50 SE SpecThe SE specification is the next up from the S and gives you upgraded 17" alloy wheels, front fog lights, rain sensing wipers, body coloured mouldings, trip computer, aluminium trim, cruise control, auto dimming rear view mirror with compass, and steering wheel audio controls. |
||
Volvo V50 SE LuxIn addition to the SE specification, The V50 SE Lux spec gives you a different set of 17" alloys, headlight power washers, power folding door mirrors, electric memory seats, heated seats, nordic oak trim, a set of carpet mats, and a full leather interior. |
||
Volvo V50 R Design Sport & SE SportThe R Design models both give you a good looking aggressive body kit, with a deeper front and rear bumper, wheel arch and sill extensions, a rear spoiler and larger tailpipe, which have been a very popular addition to the V50 range, and best sellers since launch. The Sport gets a different set of 17" alloys whereas the SE sport goes up to 18", the sport misses out on the trip computer and rain sensing wipers that are on the SE Sport, and all R Design models also get a set of half leather sports seats, where the outsides are black leather and the seat centres are a cream cloth. These can be upgraded to full black leather at extra cost. |

Volvo V50 Prices
As is typical, the V50 doesn't fit neatly into the categories occupied by other manufacturers, and Volvo V50 Prices reflect that. As a semi-premium manufacturer the cars carry a small premium, but not so much as an Audi or BMW. Thankfully here at Orangewheels we have some fantastic discounts on the V50 - just take a looks to see how much we can save you off list price. |
