Kia's new all electric e-Niro is quite simply being hailed as the best electric car on sale by the UK's motoring press, as it gives a fantastic combination of characteristics for what seems an incredibly attractive price when compared to rivals. When it comes to electric cars then the first two things to consider are range and power. Firstly we have a 150kW electric motor which gives you the equivalent of around 200 horsepower, good for a 0-60 time of around 7 seconds and powerful seamless acceleration that would compete with a hot hatch a few years ago, and a 64kWh battery that has a claimed 280 miles of range, which most of the independent road tests seem to verify is about right, and is more than enough to eliminate range anxiety for 90% of the population. After that then most other things are similar to the already very good standard Niro - a body that sits somewhere between the Ceed and Sportage in terms of size and fits a family well, decent boot, a very comfortable ride and fairly agile handling. Customers seem to agree with the whole of the first year's worth of UK allocation sold out in less than a month, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if ordering one, though this is improving slowly.
