It seems to be perfect timing for Hybrid cars, and the all new 2021 Kia Niro is perfectly positioned to take advantage of that, with a move away from diesel models, and few real alternatives to the Toyota Prius. this is Kia's first hybrid for sale in the UK, and is offered either as the standard hybrid set up where the battery is purely charged off from the petrol engine and the regeneration from the brakes, and also a more expensive plug in version that can be recharged at home, the office or any of the public charging points. Al all-electric model is expected to follow soon too, as the platform has been designed to accommodate it from the start.
The Prius its the Niro's main rival, though it undercuts it on price, and other hybrids like the Golf GTE are significantly more expensive. The main motor is the petrol engine - a 1.6 litre unit good for 104 bhp on its own, an a 43 bhp electric motor is mounted within the gearbox which thankfully is a dual clutch unit and not the CVT of the Toyota, making thew whole system feel more conventional, and significantly faster than rivals. Claimed fuel economy is around 74 mpg but will vary a lot depending on your usage and driving style. Spec levels follow Kia simplistic naming strategy of just '2' '3' and '4', though even the entry level 2 has a decent amount of kit like DAB, air conditioning, Bluetooth and a 7" colour touchscreen multimedia system. The 2021 Kia Niro is for sale in the following colours: Rich Espresso, Temptation Red, Clear White, Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Graphite, and White Pearl.
