BMW used to offer the X5 in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive formats, the 2WD known as the sDrive and the 4WD known as the xDrive. The sDrive was cheaper and designed for company car drivers to lower their CO" values and therefore also their benefit in kind taxation, but it wasn't a popular seller, and was terrible in the snow and for wheelspinning when pulling out at wet roundabouts. So the all new X5 is now available purely with a dedicated 4x4 system, and you can see all models have the xDrive name included to verify this. what's worth noting is that BMW do fit summer tyres as standard to the car to boost its handling capabilities, but these are not brilliant in the snow, so despite being a 4x4 it will get you going when the white stuff appears, but won't corner or brake effectively, so fitting a set of winter tyres will vastly improve your own safety and the car's handling in poor conditions, though if you are including maintenance and tyres in your leasing package it's unlikely that extra winter tyres will be covered.
