Fuel & Gearbox
When the X-Trail was initially launched in this latest guise, Nissan only offered the 1.6 lire as the single diesel option, but customers gave their feedback that they wanted something more powerful with plenty of mid range torque for towing, off road work, and also brisk overtaking and fast lane cruising, and so the 2.0dCi was introduced. Producing 177 horsepower it feels far more gutsy than its 1.6 cousin, and while quoted fuel economy is slightly down, as you don't need to work the engine as hard then real life usage figures aren't that different. The 2.0 litre diesel can be purchased either in manual or with the Xtronic automatic box, and either front wheel drive or optional 4 wheel drive if you're willing to pay the £1500 or so extra.
