Fuel & Gearbox
With increasing pressure on CO2 and emissions Renault has introduced a hybrid model into the newly facelifted 2020 Megane line-up. Called the E Tech, it shares the same set-up as with the new Captur model: a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine combined with 2 electric motors, allowing the car to run either in electric mode only at lower speeds, purely in petrol mode at high speeds on motorways, and a combination of both either when it’s most fuel efficient or when you need maximum acceleration. The large 9.8kWh battery allows electric only running with a range of up to 30 miles before needing recharging, and a top electric only speed of around 80 mph. So if your daily car journey consists of a commute in slow traffic of maybe 10-15 miles each way, with occasional longer distances needed and you have the facility to recharge the car at home overnight then the new Megane Hybrid could save you a lot in fuel costs.
