Fuel & Gearbox
Renault offers an automatic gearbox on the all new Scenic model in several different engine options - either the 1.5dCi diesel with 110 horsepower or the 1.6 dCi mode with the 160 horsepower output, and the all new 1.3 TCE petrol 140 horsepower engine, but not the smaller 1.2 TCE. It's denoted by the letters EDC, standing for 'Efficient Dual Clutch' and is one of the new breed of slick twin clutch automatic transmissions pioneered by Volkswagen that has practically seamless changes that are barely noticeable, a huge improvement from the gearboxes of old, and they hardly put a dent in the fuel economy figures, unlike the older style torque converter transmissions. The cost for the upgrade to auto is around £1,300 more than the equivalent manual version.
