The most powerful diesel engine available with the new SEAT Leon hatchback, coupe and estate is the 2.0 Litre TDI engine. This engine comes in two versions, both of which uses effective turbo-chargers and common rail direct injection to produce either 115 or 150 horsepower, and impressive torque of at least 320 Nm. The more powerful version has slightly lower fuel economy and higher running costs and purchase price, but may be worth considering if speed is of key importance to your choice of vehicle.
The 2021 2.0 Litre TDI engine is only available in the upgraded FR trim, with sports suspension and distinctive sporty exterior. The power and speed delivered by this engine are remarkable, with a top speed of around 134 mph and acceleration up to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds for the 150 bhp version, and 7.5 seconds with the more powerful 184 PS. The 4 cylinder engine comes combined with either a six-speed manual transmission, or the innovative SEAT DSG-auto gearbox, which replaces the manual with a seven-speed double clutch system, automatically selecting the best gear for the driving conditions at that moment.
With prices starting at just over £23,000 for the 5 door hatchback with 2.0 Litre TDI engine and manual transmission, this is not the cheapest option in the Leon range. But it does deliver a great deal of driving enjoyment and performance. Even the more practical 2.0 Litre 5 door ST Estate FR, which is available for around £25,000, packs a surprising punch, and will put a smile on many drivers’ faces as they put the pedal to the floor.
