Seat has taken the lead in the electrification stakes for larger family SUV's by being the first in the Volkswagen brand stable to release a hybrid model in its largest SUV in the UK. the Tarraco Hybrid is a plug-in or PHEV, meaning it's easily recharged at home overnight assuming you have a home charger fitted, for which there currently are government subsidies. The Tarraco features the same technology seem in the Passat and Golf GTE, a 1.4 TSI petrol engine that by itself is equal on power with the 1.5 TSI seen in the range with 150 bhp, added to an electric motor rated at 85kW which when both run in tandem gives a combined power output of 248 horsepower and lots of low down torque, meaning 0-60 times are particularly rapid.
The car will also run on petrol power alone when at high speeds eg the motorway, and electric power alone when at low speeds and small throttle openings, so when you're around town or commuting. There's a large 13kWh battery which will give an electric only range of around 30-35 miles, so if you do a daily commute of 15 miles each way in slow traffic and can recharge the car at home overnight then you could save a significant amount of fuel every month, and an equally large amount of money! so contrast the small extra monthly leasing cost with the fuel saving to see if it's a win for you! If you do higher mileages and at faster speeds then a diesel will probably be a better choice.
