Skoda has taken the decision to embrace green technology (and reduce the average CO2 emissions of its range) by introducing the technology seen on the Volkswagen e-Up electric car, and removing all the petrol engines from the Citigo line up. It's called the not so snappily titled "Citigo-e iV" and features a 61kW electric motor in place of a petrol engine, and a 37kWh battery. This gives you an estimated range of 161 miles between recharges, and the equivalent of around 82 horsepower. 0-60 is a lengthy 12 seconds (but feels much faster than this off the lights as all electric cars do) and top speed is only 80 mph but that shouldn't really matter in a car whose role is as a nippy city car designed for use around town and in places that have a congestion charge. It's plenty fast enough off the lights and a cruise of 60 mph is easily possible, and it certainly feels at home in the city. You have a choice of the SE or SE L trim levels, and you can pay more for a fast charge option - this allows you to charge at up to 40kW where available but it's worth noting this will not affect charging times at home as the best home chargers can only charge at up to 7kW, so it's mainly useful for those charging out and about using public chargers where you will get from zero to 80% charge in just one hour.
