Despite the rugged appearance and the SUV styling, the new Kamiq is currently offered purely as a front wheel drive, it isn't yet for sale with a proper 4x4 drive train and isn't likely to be as the small size and the floorpan it's based on is from the VW Polo and Skoda Scala models, neither of which have 4 wheel drive either. Also Skoda and VW usually use more powerful engines like the 2.0 litre diesel models which can provide extra torque needed for a true 4WD system, which isn't available in the new Kamiq. A proper 4x4 may become available in future on this model but we doubt it. Your best bet if you need better traction in poor weather or snow and ice would be by far to fit winter tyres to your new car (4x4 or not) during the colder months to cope with snow and ice, as any four wheel drive system can only help drive off the line instead of wheel spinning, it can't give you more cornering grip on snow or help you stop any quicker like the correct tyres can, and winter tyres will help you generate much more traction off the line than summer tyres. We may see a "Scout" version of the Kamiq with a more advanced traction control system in the future though.
