Fuel & Gearbox
Currently Toyota only offers the optional automatic gearbox on the 1.8 litre petrol model, if you choose either of the diesels they are manual transmission only unfortunately. The Auto costs around £1,400 more than the equivalent manual version and is a CVT (continuously Variable Transmission) type, which revs the engine to it's most fuel efficient position and holds it there and changes the gearing to speed the car up, which can be slightly disconcerting at first as you expect the revs to rise with the speed rather than staying the same, but once you're used to it, it's a very fuel efficient way to travel. There's no paddle shift option though, so you can't quickly knock it down a couple of gears manually, (there are no gears!) you simply press the accelerator pedal more and relax and let the car do it's thing.
