With a reputation as one of the world’s leading hybrid manufacturers, it comes as no surprise to find that the new Toyota Yaris comes with a hybrid engine now standard across the whole range, with the 1.0 and 1.5 petrol both dropped from the line-up. The combines an efficient and environmentally advanced electric motor with a powerful 1.5 Litre VVT-i petrol combustion engine, and can deliver up to 116 hp. Using a lighter battery than the previous iteration has allowed Toyota to reduce the weight of the Yaris and increase the maximum speed to around 109 mph. One of the additional benefits of owning the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid – on top of the low fuel consumption and stylish exterior – is that the hybrid version emits only 92g/km of CO2. This means it will have added appeal for drivers who spend a lot of time in the capital, either commuting or simply exploring the urban environment in comfort. With a push-button start, this car is as simple to drive as you could wish for.
At present, the hybrid engine is not available for the Yaris Active or Sport models, and with prices starting at just over £19.900 for the Icon version, the Toyota Yaris Hybrid is more expensive than a standard non-electric car. The hybrid does however have strong resale values which mean the monthly leasing price are very similar to a traditional petrol engine model and it's bound to attract interest from environmentally minded motorists.
