Vauxhall have teamed up with Peugeot and the 3008 model to sahre technology and jump into the electrification trend with not one but two hybrid versions of the new Grandland X. Depending on exactly how much you want to spend and the acceleration you need there is the 'standard' hybrid model that uses a 178 horsepower petrol engine linked to the front wheels alongside an electric motor that together generate a combined 225 bhp when used in tandem, or both can operate individually, giving around 30 miles of electric only driving.
Should you want more power then the Hybrid4 option takes the same system and adds a second 108 horsepower electric motor to the rear axle, giving 4 wheel drive and a total of 300 horsepower, a 0-60 time of just 5.9 seconds, with all that low down torque making it feel incredibly responsive off the line. The Hybrid4 gets a larger battery so you get an electric only range of around 35 miles before recharging. If you have the facility to fit a home charger and do mainly shorter journeys commuting in traffic at lower speeds then this could save you a lot of money a month in fuel and massively reduce roadside emissions. If however your car use is mainly high speed motorway work then the diesel will be the better choice.
