Fuel & Gearbox
The GTD model capitalised on the drive for diesel that became so popular - the idea of the style and handling of the iconic GTI model but with a diesel engine made for a great selling car. Volkswagen fits the GTD with a high performance version of the 2.0 TDI engine that generates 184 horsepower, enough for a 0-60 time of 7.8 seconds and yet still returns nearly 60 mpg on the official test. Now that diesel has received such bad publicity recently demand has switched back to the GTI and the GTE hybrid models, but if you're doing high mileages of 15 to 20,000 miles a year or more then diesel still makes sense financially, and the GTD is still a fine car. It gets Discover Navigation, 18" alloy wheels, sports suspension, full LED headlights, darkened rear LED ligts, the Active Info Display that replaces the analogue speedo and rev counter with a 12.3" digital display that can be configured to show several different readouts.
