Fuel & Gearbox
Volvo likes to call it's V90 T8 Hybrid model the "Twin Engine" though the name is a little misleading (Twin Motor might be more appropriate) - it has a 2.0 litre petrol engine under the bonnet that's both turbocharged and supercharged to give a whopping 314 bhp and that's sent to the front wheels, and an 85 bhp electric motor that drives the rears separately, combined with a 10.4kW battery. This allows the car to run in electric only mode at lower speeds for 31 miles according to Volvo perfect for the London congestion charge, or run under petrol power only, or a combination of the two for total performance. For this car to make full sense you need a daily commute in city traffic at low speeds so you can make the most of the electric only running and recharge your car at home every night, but with occasional need for a longer distance trip. If that's you this could save a lot of money on fuel, if not and you do more long distance or mixed driving then either the petrol or diesel are far cheaper to buy and that difference in list price will pay for a lot of petrol.
