Volvo has finally introduced its first all-electric model into the XC40 range, known as the "Recharge", the car features two 201 bhp electric motors, one for each axle giving 4-wheel drive, and with a combined power output of 402bhp equivalent and they give great acceleration times of just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 112mph,and like all electric cars due to the low down torque will feel incredibly quick off the mark. There's a large 78kWh battery that gives an expected range of 248 miles, so over 200 should be easily achievable in real life, removing most people's range anxiety. It can be charged at home on AC at up to 11kW overnight, or up to 150kW on a DC fast charger at public charging points which should deliver an 80% charge in just 40 minutes. There aren't that many rivals to the electric XC40, with the closest being the new BMW iX3 electric car, but other competitors like the Mercedes EQA, Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 E Tron will be along soon! Spec-wise the model will launch as an all-singing all-dancing 'First Edition' for around £60k, though we do expect the usual Inscription and R Design trim levels to be released to match the rest of the Volvo line up.
