The Fiat 500 has grown up. Losing none of the original’s personality and dash, Fiat have conjured a spacious family version of their classic city coupé to rival any car in its class. The new 4-door 500L benefits from Fiat’s impressive safety specification, including ABS brakes, stability control, hill hold and 6 airbags. There is also a great choice of smart engines specs, and none smarter than the 0.9 Twinair.
The longer and taller 500L 2018 model with flexible seating and storage is complemented perfectly by the lively 0.9 litre Twinair with 105PS. Using Fiat’s unique air technology, this advanced petrol engine allows the 500L to punch well above its weight whilst remaining one of the cleanest in its class, emitting just 112g of CO2 per km and returning 58.9mpg in average conditions (500L Trekking excepted). With a top speed of 112mph, the 0.9L is also good for longer outings.
The 2018 500L 0.9L Twinair is for sale in four trims; the Pop Star, Easy, Lounge and high-traction off-road Trekking edition. Listing at a little under £16K, the Pop Star builds on the entry 500L Pop trim, coming with 16-inch silver alloy wheels and chrome trim on the outside, plus a generous amount of kit in the cabin. This includes air conditioning, cruise control, electric mirrors and Bluetooth, plus leather gearstick and steering wheel.
For the same price, the 500L 0.9 litre Easy edition misses out on the exterior styling but gains parking sensors and electric rear windows. At £17,385, the Lounge trim adds fog lamps and fixed sunroof, as well as climate control, light and rain sensors, rear armrest and unique styling.
Finally, the 500L 0.9 Twinair Trekking tops the range with its rugged reinforced styling, high drive position, tough suspension and unique wheel traction system. Equally eye-catching off-road or in the city, there can’t be many more stylish compact family cars than this. The 500L 0.9L Trekking lists at just over £18K and also benefits from 17-inch alloy wheels with all-weather tyres and city brake control.
