While it's traditional in the UK that a large 4x4 should have a diesel engine due to it's strong mid range torque for towing and off road capabilities, the Velar is probably the most on-road focused Range Rover ever produced, so it makes sense that a much larger percentage of sales would be in the petrol version, and Land rover has catered for that demand with a range of 2.0 litre engines. Firstly there's the P250 with (as it's name suggests) 250 horsepower, a 0-60 time of just over 6 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph. It does suffer a little when compared to the diesel in terms of fuel economy but counters with much lower NOX emissions, making it much more welcome in city centres. Unless you're doing higher mileages or regularly tow, then its an engine you should consider. Secondly there's the P300, and 300 horsepower is a lot to get out of a 2.0 litre petrol engine but it's very strong performer with a 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 145 mph, yet fuel economy is pretty much identical to the P250, it'll just cost you around £2500 more for the additional performance.
