With fuel prices going up and bans starting on diesel cars in city centres, it’s the perfect time to consider a hybrid as your next car - both for what it can do for the environment and also how it can save you money. Mercedes has launched a hybrid version of the new 2021 GLA, called the 250e it uses the same tech seen in the A Class and B Class models with the 1.3 litre petrol engine mated to a powerful electric motor and an electric motor built into the gearbox that gives a separate 101 horsepower to give a combined figure of 215 bhp, making the car feel particularly rapid with a 0-60 time of under 7 seconds. The GLA Hybrid has a large 15.6kWh battery mounted under the boot floor that gives an electric only range of around 30-35 miles depending on temperature and how fast you go, which should be more than enough for most people’s commutes and can be recharged at home overnight saving vast amounts of money on fuel. If you have the facility to charge at home, and do mainly shorter commutes with occasional longer trips then the new Mercedes GLA hybrid could be the perfect car for you and help reduce pollution in city centres at the same time. If you're doing mainly high mileages on motorways at faster speeds then the diesels will probably be the better bet.
