Despite there being a choice of six engines available in the new Peugeot 2008 range, there is no true FAP automatic transmission option on offer. The 1.6 e-HDi Stop & Start EGC engine is the closest you will find to an automatic in this range. This diesel engine is available on two Peugeot 2008 models only - the Active and the Allure. Offering 92 bhp, it may not be the most powerful engine in the world, but CO2 emissions are low at just 98g/km.
EGC - standing for Electric Gearbox Control - is Peugeot's own transmission technology. The six speed gearbox on this 1.6 litre engine is based around the technology of a manual transmission, but with Peugeot's tried and tested electronics behind the scene doing the work of an automatic box. The driver can either choose to drive the 2008 using manual mode (but without a clutch pedal), or use the car's robotic clutch to let the car's Electronic Control Unit undertake all the work for them.
With the 1.6 e-HDi Stop & Start EGC engine, the driver can switch between manual and full automatic mode at any time they like: giving plenty of flexibility, lower CO2 emissions and lower levels of fuel consumption. The Stop & Start technology also improves fuel efficiency as the engine switches off when idling, and the EGC option is cheaper than a full automatic would likely be.
Prices vary based on the 2008 automatic variant chosen: choosing the EGC engine in the Active will set you back from £16.4k upwards, while the Allure will cost upwards of £17.6k.
