Peugeot has got into the electric car market early with a twin-pronged attack with the e-208 hatchback and its larger sister car the e-2008 model that uses the same platform and technology. Having intelligently designed the new 2008 chassis so it will acocmmodate both petrol, diesel and electric engines, and one of the best things that can be said is that it's done this so well there is no compromise or downside whatsoever to the car in choosing the electric option - it simply feels like the same great looking 2008 SUV regardless of which propulsion method you choose. The slight increase in weight doesn’t impact the car's fantastic aglie handling that has been a trademark of the 2008, and the electric motor is really good fun with its immediate torque.
The e-2008 has a 100kW electric motor powering the front wheels which is around the same as 134 bhp in old money, so it feels strongal low speeds and like all electric cars the torque is seamless from zero revs so there's an instant kick in the back from a standstill. The battery is a 50kWh unit which official gives you a range of 211 miles (more like 180 - 200 if it's a cold day and you're doing higher speeds) before needing recharging, which can be done at home on a 7kW charger or can ba fast charged at a rate up to 100kW on even the most basic model, meaning no long waits on longer journeys if you need a top up.
