Despite the rugged appearance, the majority of the Karoq range is actually front wheel drive rather than 4 wheel drive. Thankfully if you go for the largest of the diesels - the 2.0 TDI model comes as standard with a 4x4 system. As those looking for 4WD can often require a decent towing ability or use off road this makes a lot of sense, though unfortunately you can't spec the system on any other engine in the line up. The drive train sends all of the power to the front wheels for the best fuel economy until it senses them starting to slip and then it diverts power to the rear to give extra traction off the line. We'd always recommend fitting winter tyres to your new car (4x4 or not) during the colder months to cope with snow and ice, as the four wheel drive system can only help drive off the line instead of wheel spinning, it can't give you more cornering grip on snow or help you stop any quicker like the correct tyres can.
