Toyota has introduced its more powerful hybrid powerplant into the new 2021 C-HR model, working around the same basic premise at the 1.8 it's a 4 cylinder petrol engine that's mated to an electric motor which kicks in when pulling away and at lower speeds. There's a chunk more power than the 1,8 - 182 bhp vs 122 bhp and that extra 60 horsepower is very noticeable, making the car feel a lot more responsive and meaning you don't feel like you're having to thrash the engine at high revs just to get anywhere. Fuel economy is around 50 mpg, so around 5 mpg down on the 1.8 hybrid, and the battery is a little larger and now lithium Ion rather than the old-fashioned nickel, so it'll run on electric power alone more often. It's around £1,700 more for the 2.0 CH-R but we feel it's well worth the extra cost and over all it's a quality product. Almost the full range of spec levels are available in the 2.0 apart from the entry level Icon as that's for the basic 1.8 only, but the Design, Excel and Dynamic trims are all present and correct.
