The GTI is an icon in the motor industry, having been a huge seller for generations in the Golf range, and with the massive success of the ID.3 in bringing electric cars to the people, what could be better than a performance version of the car? With the GTI being petrol the GTD being diesel and the GTE being the hybrid model, we expect the ID.3 high performance sports model to be absolutely nailed on, and be badged GTX. With the standard car having 2 different choices on power level with a 110kW electric motor that gives around 150 horsepower and a 150kW electric motor giving around 200 horsepower it's a sensible prediction that the GTX should have something matching the GTI so around 200kW which is approx. 250 horsepower in old money. More than that driving one set of wheels could easily overwhelm the tyres especially with all the low down torque an electric motor gives you, and with talk from VW's engineers that the ID.3 will 2 wheel drive only means we don't expect a Golf R rivalling 4WD electric version just yet, but it may be on the cards in the more distant future.
