Fuel & Gearbox
Whilst Volvo's T4 petrol engine has exactly the same 190 bhp power rating as the D4 diesel, it's delivered in a very different way with the petrol being much smoother and quieter and higher revving, with not quite as much mid range torque as the diesel but more top end go. Fuel economy can't quite match that of the diesel at 42 mpg whereas the 0-60 time of 8.7 seconds and the top speed of 130 mph are almost identical. If you're a higher mileage user doing 20,000 miles a year or more then the improved economy of the V90 diesel may serve you better but for average users doing 10-12k miles a year then the negative publicity regarding diesel has meant that petrol cars are generally a safer bet come resale time.
